If you haven’t tried an avocado before or if you’re completely crazy about them – this one’s for you. The first time I tried an avocado, it was in the form of a similar guacamole at a friend’s place in Santa Rosa, California, where he quickly whipped up this magical dish that we ate with nachos. I was an immediate fan – An Avocado? What is that? I googled it to see what the fruit looks like and never looked back. After that ofcourse there were many times we ate avocados and in many different forms as we discovered all the different ways you can eat it in our month long trip across California. My other favorite was a simple avocado slices arranged on a simple toast – sprinkled with salt, fresh black pepper and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil. But I will always be biased towards the guac because that was my first time ? (literally when I popped my avo cherry hahaha…It was just lying there I had to go for it)
Normally if I had to make this just for myself I would’ve kept more avocado and lesser extras but since there are 2 of us in this lockdown and this was gonna be our dinner (with nachos ofcourse) I decided to load it up with lots of extras to increase the volume ? It still tastes just as good in my opinion but yes psychologically you do feel that it may not taste as nice since you’re technically reducing the avo ratio. Alright here goes:
Ingredients:
1 Avocado (you can definitely add another one in here if you like. I just had the last one lying at home)
1 Small red onion finely chopped
2 Medium tomatoes finely chopped (I prefer the the taste of desi tamatars)
Handful of fresh coriander chopped
3-4 Garlic cloves finely chopped
Juice of half a lemon
Salt to taste
1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil (optional)
5-6 Jalapeno slices (optional – I only used this because I wanted to finish my jar of jalapenoes that had been lying in the refrigerator for quite some time)
Instructions:
– Peel and halve the avocado, removing the pit
– Put it in a bowl and mash with a fork. I prefer leaving a few chunks of the fruit as is since I don’t like the pasty consistency but if that’s what you like you can even blend the avocado to get the smooth consistency.
– Mix all the ingredients together and DEVOUR!
I put this stuff on toast, eat it with nachos or even eat it as part of my lunch bowls (quinoa, masala chickpeas, stack of butterhead lettuce and guac).
