Whether it is the daily dread of keeping our homes clean in the midst of a busy lifestyle, or re-decorating your home on a budget, minimalism in décor is something that has a lot to offer us.
But just like the “no-makeup” makeup look, achieving a minimalist aesthetic is not as simple as it seems. In order to help you out with it, Anisha Parwal walks us through her minimalist dining to help and inspire you create a space even Marie Kondo would endorse!

“I have dressed up my dining from floor to top and what fun it was! It’s your own house (even if it’s rental), do not fear when it comes to experimenting!
Honestly, I do not follow trends intimately. I follow my heart. Décor is perceived differently by different people and is more of a personal choice.
There is no particular theme followed in my house and has been designed on the function of that room and according to the comfort of the people living in it. I am keen on building spaces which draws you to spend more quality time in it. I believe that how you live defines your state of mind and it should be a place you want to come back to each day with a smile on your face.
To make a place warm and comforting you do not need the fanciest or the most expensive things, just a few objects of love that you can relate to and things that define you as a person living in that place.

Here is an attempt to show how we can add drama to the basic tiled floor. It’s not difficult to get great quality floor vinyl (eg. 3m vinyl). Get them ready in the colour of your choice. Here I’ve chosen black as one can never go wrong with it and it gave my tiles a vintage vibe from the restaurants back in the 90s.
Take help from a plotter cutter to die-cut in the shape you want (folks who print car number plates). It took me a couple of hours to align and paste those vinyl stickers on the floor, but once they were done, I felt accomplished and was very satisfied with the look it had created on my plain tiles. This is the first time I am experimenting with these, hoping it will stay good for few months.
Curiosity is my biggest inspiration of all. Curiosity has its reason for existence and I am so glad it’s a major part of me. I like mixing and matching materials, be it anything, I’d be happy to put them together and bring out a masterpiece.
Bring in your dining table and set it where you’d like it to be in the room. I’ve kept mine in the middle, you can experiment and place it against a wall as well, however best you can utilize your space.
Furniture plays a very important role in adding value to the décor and cosiness of the rooms in the place. Comfy cushions for seating and Decorative articles (by now you all know how much I love) can instantly turned the place more welcoming. They instantly liven up any space.
A neat table cloth and runner always does the trick, but here I’ve decided to skip on the cloth and go for two runners instead. The change felt good and so I decided to go on with it. It’s your own house and table, do not fear when it comes to experimenting. Look how quirky these runners look in the design of a measuring tape.

Colors, I love the play of colors and how blessed I am to be able to view these colors and use them in beautifying what I love doing. I am super passionate about revamping places, anything that is dull or gives a boring vibe doesn’t have to remain like that forever. With changes and ideas, even the dullest place can be brought to life and made more welcoming.
The idea behind was to instantly amp up the vibe and jazz up the dining area through a fun-filled DIY. Be it a festive dinner with the whole family or a Sunday afternoon brunch. These ideas will help you create a warm and welcoming dining area for guests as well as the family at home.
Minimalist decor can be satisfying yet tricky to achieve. Minimalism is the art of decorating with less. The best part about minimalistic decor – the simplicity of it. The free space it offers allows ample of light to flood the area, making it look spacious. This kind of clutter-free decor is a treat to sore eyes as it doesn’t include a heavy number of elements and helps the mind relax and retire into a peaceful state after a long, tiring day.
Lesser elements mean lesser chances of the decor turning into an unorganised mess, which in turn means lesser number of cleaning sprees required. Not only does it allow more utility space but also helps in super-effective cost-cutting.
The effortless look is not straightforward to execute. A great degree of thought is involved in creating a liveable minimalist space—one that feels warm and inviting. However, achieving this look is much more than just choosing pieces of furniture, which sometimes, can leave the area in concern feeling cold, sparse or dead. It is very important to understand the difference between simple-crisp and boring. Many a times, the fine line separating these two concepts is crossed making the set-up the hardest part about minimalism in decor.”
